Reforestation in Chin State.

I. Name of the project:

The name of the project is “Reforestation in Chin State.

II. Project back ground history:

It is believed that our ancestors moved to the hills (Now called Chin Hills) from the Kalay-Kabaw valley in AD 1400. Traditional slash and burn shifting cultivation was practiced ever since then. Because of the slope terrain, surface runoff (Rain) carried away the humus/top soil of the field and the field became a fallow land within 3 to 4 years. There fore they needed to find a new field. The growing population and the passing time depleted vegetations and trees.  Tuma kum 30 laipawl-in, “Singgai” zon’na dingin ih singkung tampi ih phukma’ang zohi. Tua ban-ah, tu-in singkung sangdawn aom, palpipak namkhat, Sen gamah kizuakthei cihthu ihtheih ciangin, sum zonna dingin, singkung sangteng phuk-in, palpipak ih kaikhawm leuleu hi. Later we learned this particular 6 mile stretch held a large number of tigers.” Palpi pak atam dan “Orchids covered the mountain wall and trees along the path. Calla lilies bloomed and flourished at Fort White, a cold spot, where we spent the next night” ci-in na ciamteh hi. Khamtung gam ahoihdan, {Lord Mountbatten enjoyed his trip and noted that “the scenery is incredibly beautiful and although it takes an average 10 solid hour of driving to get from Imphal to Tiddim every moment of it was really thrilling”} ci’n Kelly’s Burma Campaign sungah na kiciamteh hi.
