30th Sept, 2013

To,

Shri. Lalthanhawla,

Hon’ble Chief Minister,

Mizoram.

Subject: Request to grace the 3rd World Zomi Convention to be held at Lamka Public ground from 25th Oct to 27th Oct, 2013 as Functional President.

Hon’ble Sir,

The Zomi Council General Headquarters, Lamka is please to inform that Shri. Oscar Fernandes, Hon’ble Union Minister, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways(MoRTH), Government of India has given affirmative response to our Invitation for Chief Guest on the opening day, the 25th Oct, 2013 of the 3rd World Zomi Convention to be held at Lamka Public ground, Churachandpur(Manipur).

As you are aware, the First chapter of the Convention was organised at Champhai, Mizoram from May 19-21, 1988 during the peak of democracy movement in Burma. It was during this historic event that, Indra Gandhi Road (Thanlon-Nungba) was manually constructed by the Convention volunteers. The Second Zomi (Zo people’s) Convention, hosted by Mizoram-based Organisation called the Zo People’s Re-Unification Organisation(ZoRO), was held between 17th -18th June, 1991 at Vanapa Hall, Aizawl. It may be noted that, between the First Zomi Convention in 1988 and the year 2013, there are a lot of geopolitical changes taking place: Burma has started moving towards democratic system of governance; the Government of India have pursued a robust Look East Policy since 1990s and the process of peaceful negotiation with armed Organisations in North East India has began.

In the backdrop of these changes, the Zomi Council intend to organise the 3rd World Zomi Convention, 2013 with the Theme: “Moving Forward”. Unlike the earlier Convention, the event will be more like a “Grand Cultural Exhibition-cum-Cultural Exchange Programme” amongst the various Indo-Burma borderland Communities. We anticipated various cultural troupes, singers and speakers from different communities.

The Zomi Council, therefore, request your honour to kindly grace the Convention as Functional President on 25th Oct, 2013. Yourself being one of the most successful politician amongst the Zofate, your presence is expected to strengthen our fraternal relationship in more ways than one.

Detail programme shall be intimated to you at the earliest possible.

We look forward to your positive response, Sir.

Yours Sincerely,

(L.B.SONA)         (K.G.TUNGNUNG)
